Getting there:

Arranging your arrival time to the island of Tongatapu is most important so as to co-incide with the air transfer from Nuku'alofa (the capital of Tongatapu) to the Ha'apai islands on the Friday morning flight.
This means you need to fly into Tonga on
Thursday 28th May and have an overnight stay in Nuku'alofa.
Fortunately the return flight from the Ha'apai islands co-incides with International departure times however you will need an overnight stay in either Auckland or Christchurch before flying on to Queenstown.
